Thinking warm thoughts..

Brrrrr!!!! It is super cold outside.  Where is the warm climate I love.  Where is the beautiful days where the children can run and play.....Not here. That is for sure.  Everyday the weather seems to get colder and I long to burrow in the warm blankets and snuggle with my hubby.  Wishing for warmth.

Day 1 Stuff...

Well, since my wife has yet to post on this newly established Blog, I'm gonna take day 1.  My name is Mike, and my wife is Brandy.  I've never done this before, but here goes...

I am not really sure how it all started, all I know is that it did.  Just another day in the life here.  A day in the life that we lead in this house of Mayhem and Madness.  I suppose I am Mayhem, and my wife is... well, really really pretty  :-)
Naturally, a "day in the life" isn't so normal when you have seven... yes, I did say 7... children in the house.  I had 4 from a previous marriage, my wife had 2, and we have 1 together (we call him "Baby Awesome").  Anyway, back to the start of the day today.  Nothing spectacular.  The alarm goes off, cussed at, and the snooze button is hit until we have to succumb to the inevitable rising from our slumber at around 6:30.  I hate mornings.  Plus, it's so hard to get out of bed on a cold morning when cuddled up with the one you love underneath a nice pile of clean sheets, a heavy quilt, and a soft fuzzy blanket.  We make sure the kids are ready for the day at school and make it onto the bus.  We have 3 in Middle School that get on the bus at 6:30, so we're really just making sure they are no longer in the house and have not missed the bus.  If they have, then well, we fuss a little, find out why they missed the bus, and then just tell them to hang tight until one of us is ready to leave for the day and take them to school.
Okay, I suppose a rundown of names, ages, and grades might be in order right about now.  We have: Joseph, 18, in 11th grade.  Sarah, 17, 11th grade. Elijah, 12, 7th grade. Destiny, 12, 6th grade.  Elizabeth, 11, 6th grade.  Blake, 6 (for a few more days), 1st grade.  And... "Baby Awesome," aka Daniel, 13 months (ummm... not exactly school age just yet).  Whew.  Okay, back to the morning routine we went through today...  My wife had to work today, and she basically just takes care of my spoiled butt and makes sure I get out the door at a decent time and that I have coffee to take with me.  I take a shower, then she  takes her shower as I finish getting ready for work.  I work Monday through Friday 8-9 hours a day, and she works 3 12-hour days a week on a rotating/track schedule from 9AM-9PM.  Brandy started my car for me this morning after I got out of the shower (see what I mean... my butt is SO spoiled), and so I returned the favor on the way out.  It was about 20 degrees out this morning.  Brrrrr!  I generally leave about 20-30 minutes before she does.  I even made sure to turn on her "butt warmer" for the cooooold leather seats in the Yukon XL (our version of a mini-van).  She takes the baby to daycare on the days she works, and I pick him up on the way home.
Anyway... work work work.  From about 8:15 to 5:15 today.  Just another day at the office.  Not really going into details about all that right now, since my guess is that Brandy wants this to be more about home life.  OH!  But, today was a rough one for Elijah.  I got a call at around 11 this morning from his school telling me that he had twisted his knee while playing basketball, and that it had swollen up a little.  I was not able to leave work today, so I called my ex who went and picked him up.  Poor guy.  Really, I'm just glad he was out there playing.  Just sorry and sad that he got hurt in the process.  Okay, so the day at work ends.  I head out, fight the rush hour traffic on the interstate... nothing like stop 'n' go traffic in a 5-speed... and pick up the baby.  HOME!!! YAY!!!  Sarah watches the rest of the kids until I get home on days like today.  Blake generally goes to his Dad's when Brandy is at work, as he did today.  Elijah stayed at his Mom's since he may or may not go to school tomorrow.  A day of recovery and being spoiled by his Mom may be in order.  So tonight was a little different than most school nights.  I miss my boys when they aren't here.  I layed the baby down for his late afternoon nap (seeing as he was asleep in the car), made dinner, and then fed the troops.  Since the baby was out, I let him sleep until I finished eating and then woke him up to feed him.  Okay... so here we are.  It's 8:45 PM and I am chillin on the couch just waiting for the call that Brandy is on her way home.  I do miss her SOOO much when she's not home with me.  It would be nice to be able to afford to have her be a stay-at-home Mom, but I don't make that kind of money... yet!  gstm. (that's gstm... Giggling Softly to Myself, a Mike Davis original).
Okay.  So that's it.  That's today... a day in the life here in the House of Mayhem and Madness.
Not quiet all....A note from Brandy....my sweet husband forgot to mention that I spend my days saving the lives of the fine folks in Lincoln County..thats right I'm an ER nurse...insert snarky attitude here.  W
